Development, Maladies and Remedies: A National Seminar

Auditorium, India International Centre (IIC),40, Lodhi Estate, Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi - 110003

14 September 2010, 11 AM 6 PM

Forum for Promoting Inclusive Growth which has been addressing issues pertaining to the inclusion of the remotest citizen of the country into our economy. We, through this Forum, aim at reaching the benefits of good governance to the remotest areas. The proposed one day National Seminar on Development, Maladies and Remedies addresses the question of sustainable and inclusive growth.

The recent times are marked by upsurges across the country on different issues. People across the country having lost faith in the system had been resorting to such methods that find them instant justice and completely ignoring the present system of governance. The resentment towards the government policies has often turned violent. In this whole milieu the most used and abused word is the idea and practice of what we know today as development. Increasingly, development denotes prosperity for a few and misery for the multitudes.

Bhagat Singh and his colleagues had declared their reason for hurling a bomb into the Constituent Assembly as an effort to make the deaf ears of the British colonial regime hear the voice of India. The present violent resentment seems to indicate at the deafness of the people at the helm of affairs of our system.

It is high time that the learned and responsible citizens of our country from all walks of life come together and conduct an audit of the four pillars of our democracy and do an honest revision of the system. Let us spend together sometime to deliberate upon the root cause of the problems that we confront today, as what reflects at the surface are only the symptoms of the disease infested in the system. Hence a careful study is essential to diagnose and find remedies to treat the system. Symptomatic treatment can not cure systemic disorders.

Therefore, the intended deliberations in this seminar are an effort in evolving at least guiding principles for the democratic life of our society, formulating strategy to place safety net for all the economic activity, lest further impoverishment of masses do not happen.

We request you to kindly spare your valuable time on 14th September, 2010 at INDIA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE, New Delhi and share your knowledge and expertise for finding a way towards solution of these issues that our society at present confronts. This National Seminar will be attended by academicians, personalities from industrial houses, bureaucrats, political personalities and members of judiciary and media.

Local hospitality includes Tea, snacks, lunch and other arrangements. For out station participants we will be happy to provide accommodation.
